COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group congratulates authors Katie Ganshert and Jane Kirkpatrick on having both been awarded 2013 Carol Awards for their novels Wildflowers from Winter (WaterBrook Press, May 2012) and Where Lilacs Still Bloom (WaterBrook Press, April 2012). The Carol Award Winners were announced at the ACFW Conference in Indianapolis, IN on Sept. 15, 2013.
The Carol Awards are given each year by American Christian Fiction Writers in recognition of the best Christian fiction published by traditional houses the previous calendar year. Wildflowers from Winter won the Debut Novel category, and Where Lilacs Still Bloom received the award for the Historical category.
Wildflowers from Winter, by breakthrough author Ganshert, follows the story of Bethany Quinn as her put-together world suddenly falls apart, forcing her to confront loss, estranged friendships, family secrets and spiritual disillusionment. Ganshert’s book reveals that out of the darkest winters of our lives, hope and life can be renewed. Her sequel to Wildflowers from Winter, entitled Wishing on Willows, was released in March 2013, and her third novel, A Broken Kind of Beautiful, will release this coming April in 2014. Wildflowers from Winter was also a 2013 Christy Awards Finalist in the Contemporary Romance category. Ganshert was born and raised in the Midwest, where she writes stories about finding faith and falling in love.
In Where Lilacs Still Bloom, award-winning author Kirkpatrick weaves the tale of German immigrant and farm wife Hulda Klager who possesses only an eighth-grade education—and a burning desire to create something beautiful. This passion puts her at odds with family and community as she challenges the early twentieth-century expectations for a simple housewife. Kirkpatrick has authored more than 20 books, including The Daughter’s Walk and One Glorious Ambition: The Compassionate Crusade of Dorothea Dix. A lively speaker, she is also a frequent keynote presenter for conferences, women’s retreats, fundraisers, and workshops.
